媒體針對兩岸關係趨勢展開民意調查，結果發現有55%的民眾希望永遠維持兩岸關係現狀，創下歷次調查新高。
國民黨總統參選人洪秀柱16日下午受訪時表示，總統參選人應該向民眾明確宣示，兩岸關係定位與政策走向。洪秀柱說：『(原音)兩岸關係是一個非常嚴肅的問題，我覺得要透過很多場合，每個候選人對兩岸關係未來定位，跟未來兩岸政策的走向做非常明確的宣示，告訴民眾到底將來怎麼走比較好。』
另外，大陸國台辦發言人馬曉光在記者會上表示，兩岸關係和平發展的關鍵是「九二共識」，否則就會觸礁擱淺；媒體詢問洪秀柱，民進黨主席蔡英文的「維持現狀說」是否能維繫兩岸和平。洪秀柱認為，蔡英文不願對「九二共識」表態，不僅是她對此有疑問，很多民眾也有疑問。
